I have not checked this in icecat yet, but I feel surprised no one caught this sooner.

I have checked Trisquel's Abrowser and am happy to report that requests are made of neither moz nor goog! Abrowser shows a custom addons list which is "a list of libre extensions, themes and translations for the browser" and is all hosted at trisquel.info.

This is probably why they wanted to make a "free addons only" website for IceCat.

We won't use Piwik. Mozilla uses Google Analytics for website analytics. Hosting our own is more work for a worse product

This always drives me crazy! Because their view of the world is like this "we are making a free product. You have to use it because free/open is better, is more secure, we help the Internet, we are a community, you can't trust Microsoft, everybody can contribute, we need your support. On the other hand, we don't give a shit about your free software project. We want you to support us, but we don't care to support your project".

Piwik is a much better, easy-to-use and customizable analytics software.

To protect ourselves the best thing we can do is to use a free software replacement, such as Abrowser, GNU Icecat or Tor Browser. I recommend turning off the do not track feature if you use Firefox, this will prevent the tracking in the addons page.

Piwik is really one of the best options available even if they have recently started to sell non-free addons, which makes me wonder for the long-term goals of the project.
