Fuck you Mozilla. I'm tired of you.

I don't enjoy the way Mozilla is going. Can someone fork FireFox and unfuck-it-up for us?

Thank God they left Thunderbird alone (it's still great). Don't get me wrong, I love Mozilla (they've made great softwares) but this aspect of them I don't like. Atleast my browser doesn't have Cliqz (but it does have effing Pocket).

This is what IceCat should be for.

And IceDove is its companion.

Are there Windows builds though? I need them, that's my problem.

I really don't know, I don't use Windows.

Yes.

Awesome, thanks.

They left Thunderbird alone because they don't care about it anymore (too few users is the reason, I think). They literally evicted Thunderbird, and said it should find a new place. But then for whatever reasons they said "ok you can stay, but you better not bother me".

In our Firefox Context Graph post last year, we highlighted the increasing problem of centralisation and how that impacts discovery on the Web.

So, what solution they propose? To shovel another Company down my throat, and send all my history to another centralization point (owned by them) that should tell me where to go.

Users who receive a version of Firefox with Cliqz will have their browsing activity sent to Cliqz servers, including the URLs of pages they visit.

WCGW?

From Wikipedia:

  • Cliqz is a web browser developed by Cliqz GmbH. It is a fork of the Firefox web browser
  • they develop an in-house search engine embedded within the browser
  • Cliqz plans to eventually monetize the software through a program known as Cliqz Offers, which will deliver sponsored offers to users based on their interests and browsing history
  • On 15 February 2017, Cliqz International GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cliqz GmbH, acquired the privacy-oriented browser extension Ghostery

Do we now need an extension to block Firefox itself? uBlock-firefox!

Why choose Germany? They could have chosen any other EU country. In Germany, anti-privacy features must be "opt-in", they can't have this ON by default.

Yep, though if nothing comes at Mozilla now, they probably have legal backing already for this. If it's against the law, it's only a matter of exposure + case against them.

FUCK YOU MOZILLA!

Blocklist for you

How do I use this? By the way, can this be shortened to *.cliqz.com?

Most tools cannot use wildcards. You can copy those into your hosts file or use it with your DNS server like https://pi-hole.net/ or loopback VPN on your phone like https://github.com/julian-klode/dns66
