Librepup is a libre fork of Puppy Linux, which uses Trisquel packages
instead of Ubuntu ones, replaces Linux with GNU Linux-libre, drops
non-free software and deblobs recommendation of non-free software in UI
elements.

It’s a small, lightweight distro useful for legacy hardware (for
example, the Libreboot X60), portable use (via CD, flash drive, etc’),
demonstration, education and more. Also, it’s able to run from RAM, so
it’s useful for PCjacking.

If you’re interested, there’s work to
do
.

Beta images will be uploaded soon.

EDIT: I’m truly sorry if anyone feels offended by the use of the
word “legacy”. Don’t get me wrong; I’m a big believer in recycling and
continued use of old hardware. Also, I have a hobby of fixing old
laptops, so my main development machine is a X60s I refurbished and
liberated.

I’d be happy to make a logo for this, if you’d give me some idea of what
you’re looking for?

Something that combines Linux-libre’s Freedo with Puppy Linux logo (or
any other dog). A wet dog or something.

I’ll look into a wet dog logo. Do you want just a plain picture, or
should it contain some text as well? Are you looking for more
‘professional’ or ‘playful’?

It should be square, without text and look good in both 48px and huge
size (say, 512px), playful.

Alrighty, will give it a go. I can email you the result if you provide a
point of contact (mine can be found on my
blog
).

legacy hardware (for example, the Libreboot X60)

Excuse me?

Thinkpad x60 with libreboot firmware

I think the point is if it can be considered “legacy hardware”

Kudos to you, my friend!

On a scale of 0% to 100%, how finished is it?

I’d say 80%. It needs release notes, a logo and some fixes here and
there.

I’ve had to look up what “PC jacking” means:

“PC Jacking” is a term used by Manu Cornet, and is as he describes it
“sticking Linux Live CDs in computers located in popular department
stores, to let the customers know that something other than Windows
exists”

In 2015, many laptops don’t have optical drives. Therefore, using a
small flash drive is a better idea, especially if you can eject it after
booting.

Any tech deployment in public worth its salt would disable USB booting
with an admin password on the BIOS to change that.\
\
Of course, people ARE idiots, so…

I’m a big believer in sleight of hand.

agree, but it sounds like so much work to do (for all PCs in a retail
shop) that I guess it’s much easier for them to deal with a bunch of
weirdos booting puppy linux :-)

What DE is it going to use, JWM like Puppy proper or will it use
something else?

It follows upstream very closely, so JWM it is. The idea is to provide a
generic, base distro that works well for most users and the tools
required to create remixes (with alternative DEs, for example) from it.
