Why hate black friday.

Why does the Free Software community always have to be so communist/socialist (two broken systems).

All of this makes the community look bad from the outside, no wonder people stay away from us (we look cringey as fuck).

Why hate black friday.

It's just a question, pal: "Hate black friday?". Ask Leah Rowe, the author of that email, not the free software community.

Why does the Free Software community always have to be so communist/socialist (two broken systems).

Free software has nothing to do with socialism or with communism. In fact, Richard Stallman is not anticapitalist. In theory, free software is also compatible with capitalism, as it encourages competition and works well against monopolies. You see, capitalists and anticapitalists defend free software when they are coherent with their ideology. But that isn't always the case and there is still a lot of ignorance from both sides.

I'm an anarchist. Am I cringey as fuck? Anarchy works, by the way.

All of this makes the community look bad from the outside, no wonder people stay away from us (we look cringey as fuck).

Then maybe you should support the open source movement, they adopted that term not to scare companies; but in theory they have more or less the same goals. I don't know what's wrong with communists and socialists that makes the free software community look bad. If you can explain and give some arguments. You should be respectful with other ideologies and remember that the free software community is very diverse.

Amen.

Anarchy works. Give me an example here (not one on a site about anarchy that is more likely to be biased).

Then again this is freepost so I don't see that talking about political stuff is allowed (which doesn't make too much sense as tech mostly always includes politics).

Well, most of human history there was no state or no property whatsoever, and in many tribes the values of anarchy were applied successfully, specially before the agricultural revolution. I you want to know about ancient anarchist societies, you can read Future primitive (Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Primitive_and_Other_Essays) from John Zerzan, it is based upon very different studies of anthropologists. If you want to hear an argument saying that anarchy works from a website that supports capitalism, you won't find it.

If you mean more recent examples, here are a few large scale ones:

  • During the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917 to 1921 there was the famous Free Territory.
  • There was a quite successful anarchist revolution in Spain in 1936, in the end it was smashed both by fascists, communists and the Spanish Republic (the last two were supposed to be war allies).
  • ...

Nowadays, there are many small-scale anarchists examples, such as small self-managed towns, self-managed social centers, small tribes, etc. I've been to a few anarchists self-managed social centers and it's awesome how people interact and work together in assemblies. They follow no orders from state nor from leaders, some even defend themselves successfully from eviction orders with the support of many neighbors. After the failure of the capitalist system (a system based on ever-increasing economic growth and exploitation of natural resources is doomed to fail, the earth is finite after all), I'm sure there will be more and bigger examples.

You started the talks about politics saying that socialism and communism are broken systems without providing any argument, also implying that most of the free software community is socialist or communist, against without evidence, just based on the email of Leah, which doesn't say anything about socialism or communism anyway. If you don't want to use Freepo.st to discuss about politics, you can always use Raddle or another discussion site which also is free software and link me to the thread if you want to keep discussing. But please, next time bring some arguments, studies or evidence of any kind, and not mere assumptions.

You need to see real anarchy in the works in the government in African countries.

Maybe then you will see how it just doesn't work...

I said that freepost isn't the place for politics as I didn't want to get a shitstorm of people complaining about it.
