This reminds me of Johnny Long and his [Hackers For Charity]. [Hackers For Charity]: https://www.hackersforcharity.org/
Ah cool! I've never seen that before. Their main goal however is "highlight the good work of the hacker community ... and change the misconceptions about our great community" so not really "helping Africa" or anything like that.
That blurb, which reads in full:- > At Hackers for Charity, our goal is to highlight the good work of the hacker community, participate in altruistic projects and flatten the learning curve for those wishing to get involved and in the process change the misconceptions about our great community. doesn't really tell the whole story. HfC has done an awful lot of good for an awful lot of people. See some of the [projects] for more info. You can also read the [blog] which chronicles the Long familiy's [move to Uganda] for seven years [projects]: https://www.hackersforcharity.org/projects/ [blog]: https://www.hackersforcharity.org/blog/ [move to Uganda]: https://www.hackersforcharity.org/hackers-for-charity/greetings-from-uganda/
