Removing, not deprecating, a.out core dump support, not a.out loading support.

And Alan Cox points out that the a.out binary loader could be done in user space if somebody wants to, but we might keep just the loader in the kernel if somebody really wants it, since the loader isn’t that big and has no really odd special cases like the core dumping does.

Indeed. For a second I thought Linux would really drop a.out which just doesn’t seem right.

I remember back in the 90s when ELF was introduced. I think dropping a.out seems right. :-)

But if the people maintaining the thing say it’s no bother, then sure, why not keep it in.

Somebody out there could still be building a.out binaries after all
