Time to make a FLOSS client/server implementation you can play without having to get a $300 proprietary console??

Reverse engineering is a monumental effort.

The interesting parts from the post:

  1. it’s not centralized to Nintendo servers
  2. you can have your own server? An open source one?

If true, I’ve never seen this before.

There’s not yet an open source implementation of the Switch server, although I believe it’s theoretically possible. The DS/Wii server has been fully reimplemented, open source. You could use it to play Animal Crossing: Wild World (2005) on a fully open source server, and it’d be the same idea.

I really like this idea of federated servers for video games. I don’t think it will work for every game but as a fan of 0AD myself that’d be pretty cool.

dang, your blog is blocked ar work :-( Will read it tonight.

lol why would they block his website in particular? Anyway I’ve quickly archived it (if you can access IA).
